How Many Treatments do I Need for Fertility Acupuncture?

Infertility is the inability of a couple to get pregnant despite having unprotected regular sex. A couple is regarded as infertile if, after regular sexual intercourse, they have not conceived in two years. It is estimated that one in seven UK couples has difficulty conceiving (HFEA, 2006).

Causes of infertility include the following:

-Problems with ovulating, 27% of couples

-Tubal damage in 14% of couples

-Low sperm count or low sperm quality in 19% of couples

-Unexplained Infertility is diagnosed in 30% of couples (NCCWCH, 2004)

Conception may also be decreased due to stress that couples may experience relating to fertility issues. (Eugster & Vingerhoets, 1999).

How Can Acupuncture Support Fertility?

There are many research studies into acupuncture which show very promising results and suggest that acupuncture may help in various areas relating to fertility and conception:

• Irregular menstrual cycle

• Reducing stress by activating the para-sympathetic nervous system (the relaxed state)

• Improvement of blood circulation to the reproductive organs, including the ovaries and uterus, allowing  them to work as efficiently as possible

• Increasing endometrial thickness by maximising blood circulation to the uterus

• Helping to trigger ovulation in some women with ovulatory problems

• Helping women with PCOS, endometriosis, period pain, pelvic inflammation

• Improving sperm count, and motility

Acupuncture is a popular treatment choice for fertility support (Smith 2010), but how many treatments will I need and how much will it cost?

At Treat’s Acupuncture clinic 75 % of clients attend for fertility related support.  Our Fertility Specialist Acupuncture Team see couples, men and women with unexplained infertility, IVF Support, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), re-occurring miscarriages, low sperm count, emotional Stress and other fertility related issues.

First Appointment- 1.5 hrs £70

An initial assessment will be carried out on your first visit, this is done in a private setting. A detailed fertility and health history will be taken, as well as a Traditional Chinese Medical diagnosis which includes, pulse and tongue observations, a close look at lifestyle, diet, exercise and emotional and psychological aspects.  You will receive an acupuncture treatment at your first session.

Follow Ups in our Community Multibed 1 hr. 15 at £38 per session

Treat prides itself on our ethos of providing affordable Acupuncture treatment for Fertility related issues.  With this in mind the model of our Multibed Clinic was created in 2010 and has grown in popularity since then.  What this means is you can access ongoing treatment at a reduced rate, saving £14 per session compared to a private follow up of £52.

The amount of acupuncture treatments in total really depends on your individual needs, health, goals, and how you respond to acupuncture.  This makes it difficult to predict a total amount that you will require.  However, most people experience some positive results in just 1 or 2 treatments.  Weekly treatment is recommended to start with, the majority of Fertility clients start with a course of 6-10 treatments with a review session after this. As Acupuncture treatment is accumulative and has better outcomes with regular treatment the Multibed setting enables affordability and effective treatment.

What is Multi Bed Acupuncture?

Rebecca and her acupuncture team specialises in Fertility and Pregnancy within this communal calm, respectful setting.  The team work with several patients at the same time and is similar to how acupuncturists work in clinics all over China on a daily basis.

Acupuncture needles take 20-45 minutes to do their work. It’s therefore possible for an acupuncturist to treat a person, leave them to relax while another person is being treated. As more than one person is treated within an hour, the multi-bed setting enables the cost to be reduced. The atmosphere has a positive community spirit.

Your physical privacy is maintained at all times.
